"The Pillars of the Earth" is getting a prequel

Author Ken Follett will release a prequel to his novel The Pillars of the Earth next fall.

He made this announcement during an appearance at the Frankfurt Book Fair, reports the Bookseller.

The Evening and the Morning is set around the year 1000, during a time when England was under constant attack by Vikings and as the Dark Ages began to yield to the Middle Ages.

The Pillars of the Earth has sold over 27 million copies worldwide since its publication in 1989; set in twelfth-century England, it launched a bestselling trilogy.
